A lot of my work is inspired by the symbols around me, so I thought it would be appropriate to show a pair of pieces that are inspired by a symbol from my home. For years I’ve held onto this lamp I found at a thrift store thats the shape of an apple with a bulb that sticks out of it. After taking it from place to place it has unintentionally become representative of the feeling of being at home. I’m interested in exploring the relationship between an object/symbol’s aesthetic value alongside the process of our associated feelings.

James Cherry is a sculptor currently based in Los Angeles, CA. His work explores identity and perception through playful material exploration.
